The historic Montiverdi estate had been owned by the Stucchi-Prinetti family since 1700. Located in Gaiole, near the
medieval village of Barbischio, Montiverdi is some distance from their property, Badia a Coltibuono. Therefore, in 1972, they sold Montiverdi to Nicola Longo, owner of an engineering company in
Milano. Vineyards were replanted in 1973 and in 1975 new cellars were built. The firs vintage took place in 1977. The bottling line was created in 1982. Today, about 11,000 cases are
produced by enologist Stefano Chiociolli. Most of the production is Chianti Classico, but a small quantity of Riserva wines and Super Tuscans are made in outstanding vintages. Montiverdi has
an assortment of Slavonian oak casks and French barriques. Montiverdi wines have won many international awards, including the “Gran Medaglia d’Oro” at the Vinitaly Wine Fair in Verona. All
Montiverdi wines are estate grown and estate bottled.
